The U.S. Postal Service has issued a special Rosa Parks stamp to mark the 100th birthday of the late civil rights icon. The stamp's issue is one of several events scheduled to honor Parks.

Parks was arrested in 1955 for refusing to give up her seat on a Montgomery, Alabama, bus to a white man. Her arrest sparked a 381-day boycott of the Montgomery bus system, an event that helped bring Reverend Martin Luther King Junior to prominence.

The Supreme Court banned segregation on public transportation in 1956 and Montgomery was ordered to integrate its buses.

Parks died in 2005 and was the first woman to lie in honor in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda.
